ABOUT US

First and foremost, we are a small custom guitar string manufacturer in the USA.

Our strings are made from the highest quality raw materials, with top of the line machines, for the highest possible consistency. We use a hex core and nickel winds for long life and crystal clear top end at a very competitive price.

Why do we do this?

Because, up until 2019 (when we started), there were no guitar string manufacturers making strings for specific tunings and specific tensions that were optimized for the best player experience. Everything was a compromise due to all the off-the-shelf and popular sets being "grandfathered in" with bizarre tension variances. Why weren't the main string manufacturers moving the needle at all? Why were almost all the available sets the same across most brands while also having seemingly thoughtless tension imbalances?

An Impetus for Change
Having been a guitar player and builder and a recording studio owner for the better part of 25 years, Eric Hill (our CEO), ran into situation after situation in the studio where band members needed to change their strings for specific tunings. No off-the-shelf sets had a balanced or optimized tension scheme, the low strings were always too light in tension to keep tune (especially in drop tunings), and nobody understood what they needed or wanted outside of "I just grab the 7 string SLINKY set and toss the high e string in the garbage and then take the low string from this pack for my drop tunings"... we're sure you've heard that before! Enough was enough and The Source was born.

What is Optimized Tension?

We developed a system where all the strings have the same tension/resistance to bends across the entire fretboard which takes into consideration the FEEL of wound strings verses plains and compensates for it. Not just math... feel is important as well. We put all these into categories by tension which relate to all standard and drop tunings, resulting in an exceptional playing experience IN ANY TUNING. Simply figure out which tension level you prefer (Super Light, Light, Medium and Heavy) and you can then select your set based on that scheme. Imagine if you like the feel of 9s in standard... that is in our Super Light range. Now imagine if you want to write in drop C... find the set, via our SET SELECTOR, that is Super Light based on your scale length and your Drop C set will have the same tension and feel as your 9s in standard E.

And if that is not enough...

If you have preferences outside of our tension schemes, you can create your own custom set with exactly what you want. Aaaand we even have you covered on many alternate tunings!
